The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle accident in Wilbarger County on Saturday. The accident occurred on U.S. 287, 3 miles west of Chillicothe at around 4:26 a.m.
According to the officials, a 2016 Ford F250 pickup truck was driving down the highway when it approached a curve. The driver entered the curve to the left and then fell into the south ditch, hitting a guardrail. This caused the vehicle to side-skid to the left and then to the right.
The driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. He incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have since identified him to be 38-year-old Kevin Lane Patnode.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated.
