The California Highway Patrol reported a hit-and-run accident in Riverside on Monday. The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 215, just north of La Cadena Drive at around 1:45 a.m.
According to the officials, a Chevrolet Silverado was headed down the freeway when it ran out of fuel and died. The driver of the vehicle pulled it over to the side and started refuelling it.
It was at this time that a Honda sport utility vehicle that was headed south, veered off the road and into the victim. The driver of the Honda did not remain at the scene and fled before the police could arrive.
The driver of the Chevrolet was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Gilberto Sotelo. The fatal crash is still being investigated.
