According to the Westminster Police, a fatal crash was reported on Sunday in Westminster.

Officials confirmed that one person died due to the pedestrian accident.

Authorities stated that the hit-and-run collision occurred in the area near the Newland Street and Hazard Avenue intersection.

According to the officials, 37-year-old Jose Luis Avelard was walking in the area when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene after causing the accident.

Avelarde was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

No further details including the description of the vehicle have been released yet.

The cause of the wreck remains unknown.

The crash continues to be investigated by the Westminster Police.
