On Wednesday afternoon, 37-year-old Christopher Robinson, a man from Como, lost his life while 35-year-old Charlie Williams suffered injuries following a fiery crash in Rains County.
According to a report at 6:15 yesterday evening, officers quickly responded to the area of FM-514, about seven miles west of the city of Yantis in Rains County. The early reports showed that the driver of a 2001 Ford Taurus was heading west on FM-514 in a left-hand curve.
For unknown reasons, the car drifted off the roadway to the right, hit a tree, rolled over and caught fire. Christopher Robinson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. He received major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by the officials. Robinson was transported to Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.
Charlie Williams, from Sulphur Springs, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was partially ejected from the car as a result of the crash. A bystander rescued Williams who was then rushed to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler in critical condition.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
