The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Lacey on Friday morning. The accident happened on southbound Interstate 5 close to Carpenter Road at around 4:45 a.m.
A 36-year-old driver was driving in the middle lane near milepost 110 when he lost control of the vehicle and hit an excavator on the right shoulder. He then hit an attenuator truck in the right lane.
At the scene, he was pronounced dead. The name and identity of the victim have not been made public yet.
His Chevy Silverado was totalled, and there is reportable damage to the excavator and attenuator truck. Roads in the area were shut down for more than four hours as a result of the fatal crash.
