The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Indio on Sunday night. The accident occurred on Interstate 10, near Jefferson Street, at around 2:05 a.m.
According to the officials, a single vehicle was involved in the collision. A silver Toyota Camry had crashed into a concrete barrier. The events leading up to the crash are not entirely clear at this time.
The driver of the vehicle was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have since identified the victim as 355-year-old Teresa Herrera. A second victim was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated by officials. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
