The Phoenix Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash in Phoenix on Saturday night. The accident happened close to 43rd and Glendale Avenue at around 9:45 p.m.
When the police arrived, they discovered a car stopped in the middle of the road with a man lying on top of it and suffering from serious injuries.
Investigators discovered that Matthew Rhoades, who was moving east, struck the victim who was identified as Ricardo Martinez, 35 as he was crossing the street in the middle of a block.
After being taken to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The driver was unharmed and remained at the scene.
During the fatal crash, it was discovered that he was driving while intoxicated. For aggravated DUI, Rhoades was detained and booked; his license has since been suspended.
