The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported a pedestrian accident earlier this month. The accident occurred at the intersection of Avenida de la Madrid and Smythe Avenue at around 9:15 p.m.
According to the officials, a pedestrian was walking on the marked crosswalk when she was hit by a BMW sports utility vehicle.
The pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Laura Yazmin Martinez, was taken to the UC San Diego Medical Center Trauma Bay with severe injuries. Lifesaving measures were performed but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The officials have taken him into custody for driving under the influence of marijuana.
There are no other details regarding the fatal accident available at this time.
