On Wednesday, 35-year-old Johnathan M Franklin, of New Orleans, lost his life following a single-vehicle accident in St. Bernard Parish.
As per the initial information, officers quickly responded to the area of LA 39 (W. Judge Perez Drive) near Center Street in Arabi just after 3:30 am on reports of a car crash. The early reports showed that Franklin was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat west on Judge Perez Drive in the right lane at a high rate of speed when he failed to maintain control of the car.
Just then, the vehicle began to rotate across the left lane of LA 39, before hitting a tree in the median. Franklin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. He suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The front seat passenger was also not buckled up.
The passenger received critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. No other information has been provided by the authorities.
An investigation is continuing.
