35-year-old Jasy Hunt died in two-vehicle collision; Levi Mitchell fled the scene (Ascension Parish, LA)

On Monday morning, 35-year-old Jasy Hunt, a Gonzales woman, lost her life following a two-vehicle crash in Ascension Parish.

According to the officials, the incident took place on LA Hwy 938 on Coon Trap Road, north of LA Hwy 74 in Ascension Parish at about 11:30 a.m. As per the preliminary reports, 26-year-old Levi Mitchell of Prairieville was heading north on LA Hwy 938 in a Hyundai Santa Fe, and Hunt was the front seat passenger.

At the same time, a Freightliner box truck was going south on LA Hwy 938. Just then, Mitchell crossed the centerline into the opposing lane as a result of which the Hyundai crashed head-on into the truck. Mitchell got out of the car after the collision and fled from the scene.

Hunt was not properly restrained at the time of the accident. On arrival, officers declared her deceased. The driver of the box truck was restrained and received minor injuries. Paramedics transported him to an area hospital for treatment. Mitchell was unrestrained at the time of the crash and still remains at large.

An investigation is underway.
