Officials identified 35-year-old Bonnie Roth as the woman who lost her life after a single-vehicle accident last week in her hometown of Alpine.
The fatal car crash took place on Interstate 8 at around 8:30 a.m. Friday. The preliminary investigation reports showed that Bonnie Roth lost control of the westbound Chevrolet Tahoe for undetermined reasons while headed west through the eastern San Diego-area town with her two young daughters.
The vehicle swerved into an unpaved center median west of Tavern Road, rolled over and tumbled down an embankment, thrown the woman from the vehicle. The vehicle came to a rest upright on the eastbound side of the freeway. Roth succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Medics transported the children — who had been riding in the back seat of the SUV, the younger one secured in a car seat and the other wearing a seat belt — to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
Roth and her daughters, identified as 9-year-old Moxie and 3-year-old Roxie, were heading to a dance competition when the incident happened. No further details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
