A police pursuit originating in Plaquemine culminated in a fatal crash Saturday evening, claiming the life of Jonathan Williams, 34, and causing serious injuries to his passenger. Williams, pursued by officers after an altercation involving his estranged girlfriend’s car, accelerated recklessly along LA 1.
Despite attempts to halt the chase due to heavy traffic, Williams ran a red light, colliding with another vehicle. The impact caused his car to overturn, resulting in his death at the scene.
His unrestrained passenger sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a hospital. The occupants of the other vehicle, wearing seatbelts, suffered moderate injuries. The incident is under investigation by authorities.
