A tragic incident occurred in Tucson on Saturday, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old man in a fatal crash involving a scooter and a car. Carlos Jason Lopez was riding a 2022 Genuine Scooter motorcycle on St. Mary’s Road around 12:15 p.m. when a 2024 Hyundai Tucson turned left in front of him onto the northbound Interstate-10 frontage road, causing a collision.
Despite having the green light, Lopez couldn’t avoid the oncoming car, and he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Lopez, wearing his helmet, did not possess a valid driver’s license or motorcycle endorsement at the time of the crash. The driver of the Hyundai, Daniela Marquez-Batista, 33, was cited for suspicion of causing death by moving violation.
