Authorities identified 33-year-old Huey Smith as the man who died of injuries he suffered following a traffic collision on Wednesday in Jena.
The fatal single-vehicle crash took place at about 3:00 p.m. on LA Hwy 127, south of Cannon Road. According to the investigation reports, a 2000 GMC Sierra, driven by Smith, was heading south on LA Hwy 127 when the vehicle went off the roadway and rolled over. Due to the impact, Smith was ejected from the truck and received life-threatening injuries.
He was rushed to Rapides Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. On July 22, Smith was declared dead. He was reportedly not buckled up at the time of the accident. Impairment is not suspected to be involved in the wreck. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and given for analysis. No additional information has been released.
The crash remains under review.
