The Riverside County Fire Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Monday evening. The accident happened on Interstate 10 close to Milepost 63 at around 6:13 p.m.
A man driving a 1994 Toyota pickup westbound on I-10 at about 70 mph. According to Torres, the pickup made an unsafe right turn, drove off the road in a northwesterly direction, up a dirt embankment, and then overturned down a steep hillside into a dry dirt wash area.
The driver was ejected from the Toyota and pronounced dead at the scene. The man has been identified as 32-year-old Rex Orton of Desert Hot Springs.
Torres claimed that the fatal crash may have involved drugs or alcohol, though that is still being investigated.
