Authorities identified 32-year-old Raul Chagollan as the victim who died following a single-vehicle wreck on Friday in Blue Diamond while officers arrested Armando Lazaro Jr. Fonte on suspicion of driving while impaired.
The fatal semi-truck crash took place at about 10:28 a.m. on Blue Diamond Road, east of mile marker 14. According to the investigation reports, two people were inside the Western Star Tractor Trailer that was heading eastbound on Blue Diamond in the middle lane.
The tractor trailer was going at a speed too fast for conditions as it approached a curve. The trailer reportedly rolled onto its right side and skidded into the desert just south of Blue Diamond, where it rotated counter-clockwise.
The front passenger, identified as 32-year-old Raul Chagollan, suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The driver of the semi, Armando Lazaro Jr. Fonte, was placed into custody on suspicion of impairment “along with other charges” and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. No further details were provided.
The crash remains under review.
