The California Highway Patrol reported a head-on motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles in Merced County. The collision claimed the life of a 32-year-old man on Tuesday.
Approximately at 7:30 p.m., a 32-year-old man from Atwater was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Golf at high speed. The vehicle then moved into the path of a 2016 semi-truck driven by a 69-year-old man from Hilmar on Highway 140, east of Lincoln Boulevard. The two vehicles crashed into each other.
The driver of the Volkswagen was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the dead is not yet disclosed. The officials have not reported if there were others injured.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. There are no other details available at this time.
