The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Sunnyside. The crash involved only one vehicle. The accident happened on State Route 241 close to milepost 18.
The WSP claims that a Sunnyside teenager was driving when she lost control of the vehicle, it veered off the road, and it rolled down an embankment.
Following the collision, the driver and her male 14-year-old passenger were taken to Astria Sunnyside Hospital. A third passenger Bertin Jimenez Yesca, 32, of Sunnyside in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene after incurring fatal injuries.
The WSP reports that the next of kin has been contacted.
The fatal crash caused the eastbound lanes of the highway to be closed. Since then, the lanes have opened again.
