A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Placer County, resulting in the death of 31-year-old Samuel Lee Cook. Cook, identified as a suspect in a hit-and-run investigation, ran into the lanes of I-80 before being struck by a big rig, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The initial hit-and-run accident, described as minor, led officers to stop Cook’s car on the right shoulder of I-80. Cook then fled into traffic lanes, where he was fatally injured. The driver of the big rig was not impaired, and the reason behind Cook’s actions remains unclear.
