A tragic motor vehicle accident unfolded in Collingsworth County, Texas, as 31-year-old Ramiro Perez-Hernandez of Wellington lost his life while riding his bike on Sunday night.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m., about one mile east of Wellington. Perez-Hernandez was heading westbound on FM 3197 when a 2013 Nissan Altima, also traveling westbound, struck him from behind.
Despite the bicycle being equipped with reflectors and lights, the impact led to Perez-Hernandez’s untimely death. He was fatally injured due to the force of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle, who was unlicensed, remained unharmed and was released to a family member. Charges are pending, pending the investigation’s outcome.
