The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Merced on Thursday. The accident occurred on Highway 59, south of McNamara Road at around 2:37 a.m.
According to the officials, a 2003 Ford Explorer was headed south on State Route 59 when it lost control and veered to the left. This caused it to travel off the roadway and into a ditch. The Explorer then overturned before coming to a rest on its side.
The driver of the vehicle incurred fatal injuries due to the crash and was pronounced dead a the scene. His identity has not been disclosed at this time.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. There are no other details available at this time.
