A fatal motor vehicle accident occurred early Monday morning on U.S. Route 50 westbound, west of Jefferson Boulevard. The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident just after midnight.
A 2015 Nissan, driven by a 30-year-old female from Fair Oaks, veered into the centre divide for unknown reasons. This caused it to collide with support beams for the Sycamore Trail pedestrian overcrossing.
The passenger was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center. The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time.
The fatal crash led to the closure of U.S. Route 50, west of Jefferson Boulevard until the structural integrity of the overcrossing was assessed and the road reopened around 7:15 a.m.
