Police authorities reported a motor vehicle accident in North San Jose on February 3. The crash occurred around 5:41 p.m. near Piedmont and Sierra roads.
According to reports, a white 2006 BMW sedan traveling north on Piedmont veered off the roadway, striking a light pole and a tree. The passenger, identified as Rosa Magaly Zapata, a 30-year-old Turlock resident, was fatally injured and later succumbed to them at a hospital. The male driver fled the scene.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated by the authorities. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. Authorities are actively searching for the driver, whose description has not been disclosed.
