The Oceanside Police Department reported a motor vehicle accident on Sunday. The accident occurred on State Route 76, at Airport Road at 1:54 a.m.
According to the officials, a 2003 Nissan Altima lost control and crashed into a tree on the south shoulder of the roadway. The driver has since been identified as 29-year-old Guillermo Sanchez Pacheco. He has been arrested.
One of the passengers present in the vehicle, identified only as a 30-year-old man, was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His full identity has not been disclosed yet.
The officials have reported that they suspect driving under the influence and speeding to have played a role in the fatal crash. There are no other details available at this time.
