A tragedy unfolded in Merced County as a 30-year-old man lost his life in an early morning fatal crash. The motor vehicle accident occurred before 2:30 a.m. on Sante Fe Drive, north of Bradbury Road, just outside Ballico.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the man was driving a Toyota Camry when he veered off the road, colliding with a power pole and chain-link fence. Initially trapped in the car due to live power lines, the driver was extricated after power was cut. However, he was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time. It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
