Authorities identified 30-year-old David J Riley, from DeRidder, as the man who lost his life and 21-year-old Taylor A Maye, of Lake Charles, as the man who suffered injuries following a traffic collision that also injured another person on Wednesday near Ragley.
The fatal two-vehicle crash took place near the intersection of Hwy 12 and Pierce Road at about 5 p.m. According to the investigation reports, a 2021 Chevrolet Express FedEx truck, driven by 21-year-old Taylor A Maye was heading west on Hwy 12. Maye went over the center line and tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone for undetermined reasons.
Just then, his vehicle sideswiped a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado that was going east along Hwy 12 at that time. A passenger of the Silverado, identified as 30-year-old David J Riley, sustained major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.
He was buckled up at the time of the collision. The driver of the Silverado and the FedEx truck’s driver incurred only minimal injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under investigation.
