On Tuesday, a 3-year-old child and two others suffered injuries following a traffic collision in Quincy.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle crash took place shortly before 6:10 a.m. on State Route 281 and Road 5 Northwest in Grant County. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 32-year-old Quincy man was driving his pickup truck on the freeway while a 43-year-old Mattawa woman was northbound on the freeway with a 3-year-old passenger.
For unknown reasons, the Quincy man failed to maintain control of his vehicle as a result of which the vehicle drifted off the roadway. He attempted to regain control and overcorrected. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and crossed between the northbound and southbound lanes.
Just then, the woman’s vehicle crashed into the Quincy man’s vehicle in the northbound lane. One of the vehicles flipped over and blocked the freeway into an embankment and caught fire. On arrival, emergency crews rushed the child and the Quincy man to Quincy Valley Medical Center for emergency treatment.
The child was later flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Paramedics transported the woman to Central Washington Hospital with unspecified injuries. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
