3 people hospitalized after a crash in Cortez Hill involving two pedestrians (San Diego, CA)

At least three people were hospitalized after a traffic accident Saturday afternoon in the Cortez Hill neighborhood.

As per the initial information, the incident involving two pedestrians took place on 6th Avenue and Cedar Street, close to Interstate 5 at about 12:30 p.m. The preliminary reports showed that the driver of the car, identified as a 58-year-old man, was heading southbound on 6th Avenue in a grey Toyota Camry when, for an undetermined reason, he veered to the left and drove onto the east sidewalk on 6th Avenue where the car slammed into a light post and a parking meter.

The reports further revealed that two pedestrians were hit by debris from the crash.  The driver remained at the scene and was transported to a local hospital with minimal injuries. The two men were also shifted to the hospital. One of the men had life-threatening internal injuries and the other incurred only minor injuries. The northbound offramp at 6th Avenue was closed while crews worked at the scene. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
