3 children injured after a car hits a school bus in Kennewick (Kennewick, WA)

On Tuesday morning, three students suffered injuries after a vehicle broadsided a Cascade Elementary school bus in Kennewick.

The incident took place at the intersection of E. 27th Avenue and S. Gum Street. The preliminary investigation revealed that 14 elementary school-aged children were on the bus at the time of the collision. Three students sustained bumps on the head after hitting the seats. The children were provided medical aid at the scene and were later sent to Cascade Elementary aboard another bus.

According to the officials, a white Sedan crashed into the school bus at the intersection at about 8:01 a.m. Bystanders informed the officers that the driver of the car had failed to yield at a stop sign before the accident. Authorities said that the Sedan driver is “young” but no additional details are released at this time.

The car was still at the scene after an hour when the investigators arrived at the crash site. Police shut down S. Gum St. from E. 26th Avenue to E. 27th Avenue as crews worked to clear the area.

The crash remains under review.
