A fatal car crash occurred in Yuma early Friday morning, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old man, according to the Yuma Police Department (YPD). The incident unfolded at the intersection of East County 16th Street and South Avenue 3E.
A 27-year-old man was driving a 2022 Tesla eastbound on County 16th Street at a high speed, disregarding the stop sign at Avenue 3E. The Tesla collided with a 2006 Toyota Scion traveling southbound on Avenue 3E, driven by the 29-year-old man. Tragically, the Toyota driver was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Tesla driver was extracted from his car and taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition. YPD mentioned that while speed was a contributing factor, they are investigating if impairment played a role in the crash. The case remains under investigation.
