On Sunday, 29-year-old Luis Rudolfo Mojarro, a resident of Lodi, lost his life while 21-year-old Fernando Herrera, also from Lodi, received injuries following a single-vehicle accident on Highway 99.
Officers quickly responded to the area of West Monte Vista Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. after getting reports of a car crash. The early reports showed that the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe was in the middle northbound lane at West Monte Vista Avenue when his car swerved right sharply and left the east edge of the road. The SUV then fell down an embankment, rolled over and ended up on its roof.
The driver, Luis Rudolfo Mojarro was ejected from the vehicle onto the Monte Vista on-ramp to the highway as he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Medics transported him to Emanuel Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Mojarro’s passenger, Herrera, was wearing a seatbelt at that time.
He suffered serious injuries, including broken ribs, back, scapula and right hand and a possible skull fracture. Paramedics rushed him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. No other information is available.
The incident remains under investigation.
