29-year-old Dakota Butler died after a fiery crash in Cherokee County (Rusk, TX)

On Wednesday evening, a fiery crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Dakota Butler, a resident of Mt. Enterprise, in Cherokee County.

As per the initial information, officers quickly responded to the area of FM-2138, about 10 miles west of the city of Rusk in Cherokee County at 8:40 p.m. after getting reports of a single-vehicle crash. The early reports showed that Dakota Butler was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado heading south on FM-2138 in a left hand curve.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted off the East side of the roadway, entered a side skid and hit a tree with its passenger side. The vehicle reportedly had burst into flames due to the collision. Dakota Butler suffered major injuries and was declared deceased at the crash scene.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
