On Sunday, 27-year-old Michael Turner, from Lawrenceville, lost his life following a motorcycle accident in Gwinnett County.
Officers actively responded to the area of Stone Mountain Highway and Parkwood Road at about 5 p.m. after getting reports of a two-vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation showed that Michael Turner was heading west on Stone Mountain Highway on a motorcycle. Just then, a large, dark-colored SUV made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle.
As Turner was approaching the intersection of Parkwood Road, he veered in order to avoid a crash with the SUV, but failed to maintain control of his bike and ended up crashing into a tree. The driver of the SUV pulled over and stepped out of the vehicle to check out the scene, but they got back inside and fled the scene instead of helping the injured man.
Turner succumbed to his injuries as a result of the accident. The SUV driver is described to be a light-skinned, black man with short black hair. He stands about 5-feet 10-inches tall, weighs about 170-190 pounds, and could be between the ages of 30 and 40, officials added.
The incident remains under review.
