27-year-old Michael Gurrola of Riverside killed in a car vs. big rig accident on Interstate 215 on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 1 a.m. south of Columbia Avenue. Gurrola was driving a Honda Civic in the slow lane when his vehicle rear-ended a big rig. Authorities did not confirm if the truck was stopped on the freeway prior to the impact.
Medics transported Gurrola to Riverside Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Trucker did not suffer any injuries in the accident. Officers shut down half of the southbound Interstate 215 to clear the debris but reopened all lanes before daybreak.
The authorities continue to investigate the crash.
