A 27-year-old man lost his life following a traffic collision early Friday near Serra Mesa.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place on the shoulder of Interstate 15. The officers responded to the scene just after 1 a.m. The preliminary reports showed that the driver of a white Chevrolet box truck was heading north on I-15 near Friars Road when he noticed the truck had a flat tire and pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway.
The driver, a 25-year-old Spring Valley man, came out of the vehicle and was standing outside the vehicle near the front of the truck. At some point of time, the driver of a black Toyota sedan, only identified as a 27-year-old man from San Diego, was going north when he swerved the car off the road and hit the truck from behind. Due to the impact, the driver of the Toyota was pinned in the vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The force of the collision pushed the box truck forward, and it hit the man standing in front of it. He was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Multiple lanes were shut down while crews worked at the scene. All lanes were reopened about three hours later. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the wreck. No other details are available.
The accident remains under investigation.
