27-Year-Old Luis Rey Killed In A Motor Vehicle Accident In Corona (Corona, CA)

A fatal crash struck Corona as a 27-year-old man, identified as Luis Rey of Riverside, lost his life after being struck by a freight train while walking onto railroad tracks, authorities revealed Thursday.

The motor vehicle accident occurred at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday on Burlington Santa Fe Railroad tracks in the 300 block of North Sheridan Street, just north of Railroad Street, according to the Corona Police Department.

Rey’s reasons for stepping onto the tracks remain unknown. Despite the freight train operator’s efforts to stop upon spotting him, the collision proved fatal. Patrol officers arrived minutes later to find Rey deceased and the train halted. Riverside County coroner’s investigators have assumed control of the remains for further examination. The tracks were reopened within a couple of hours.
