According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, two people were killed in a motor vehicle collision in Chula Vista. The victims have since been identified as 27-year-old Esmeralda Medina Villa and 22-year-old Joshua Ziolkowski.
At around 3:200 a.m., Medina Villa was driving a 2006 BMW SUV northbound on I-5 when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then swerved off the road and struck a pole.
A Ford Mustang driving northbound on I-5 struck the BMW. Both Medina Villa and the passenger Joshua Ziolkowski were fatally injured and were pronounced dead at the scene.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. No further information is available at the moment.
