Daniel Luis Molina, 27, and Dawit Befakadu Girma, 21, both Texas National Guardsmen from San Antonio, tragically lost their lives in a rollover fatal crash reported around 1:30 a.m. on January 29.
Laredo police responded to the incident near Bob Bullock Loop and International Boulevard, finding a rolled-over white Ford F-150 with Molina ejected and Girma attempting CPR. Shockingly, further investigation revealed that Girma, identified as the driver, retrieved a weapon from his waistband and took his own life.
Both soldiers were assigned to Operation Lone Star. Despite first responders’ efforts, Molina and Girma were pronounced dead at the hospital. The circumstances surrounding this devastating motor vehicle accident remain under investigation.
