On Saturday night, a single-vehicle accident killed 27-year-old Connor William Wales, a resident of Forsyth, and injured a woman who was found by a Good Samaritan over 12 hours after the crash.
According to the officers, two people were driving down Old Cornelia Highway at about 11:45 p.m. when their car ran off the road and hit a tree, causing it to overturn. The car then plunged down a 50-foot embankment and landed on its roof.
A bystander informed the police that he heard a loud crash while in his home and tried to found the source of the sound, but he could not find it. He said that he went out again just after noon on Sunday to assess the area again and heard a woman shouting for help.
He then found the car and contacted GSP. On arrival, medics rushed the driver of the car, Connor William Wales, to Northeast Georgia Hospital where he was declared dead. The passenger, a 22-year-old Gainesville woman, was also transported to the same hospital and is being treated for her injuries.
Her current condition is unknown at this time. Officials stated that Wales is suspected of having drugs and alcohol in his system at the time of the accident.
The cause of the crash is under active investigation.
