According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported in National City. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred southbound on National City Boulevard. The deceased motorist was identified as 26-year-old Cristian Santizo.
Santizo was being chased by a patrol officer. He failed to yield when the officer tried to pull him over for speeding. Subsequently, Santizo veered off the roadway and crashed into parked cars, utility poles and a sign in front of a Mazda dealership.
Santizo was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. The cause of the collision is yet to be determined.
The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP.
