On Thursday morning, a 25-year-old man lost his life following a two-vehicle collision caused by an impaired juvenile running a red light in the southwest Las Vegas.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place on West Windmill Lane near Canarelli Middle School. An elementary school is also nearby. The preliminary investigation showed that at around 8:44 AM, Clark County School District police officers attempted to pull over a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country for “suspected narcotics-related activity” close to Sierra Vista High School.
The minivan drove away, and officers did not chase. The Chrysler was heading east on West Windmill Lane at a high rate of speed. At that time, a 2013 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 25-year-old man, from Las Vegas, was going north on Torrey Pines Drive approaching the Windmill intersection, approximately 2.5 miles from the high school.
The driver of the Chrysler ignored a red light at very high speed and crashed into the driver’s side of the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the juvenile was rushed to University Medical Center with serious injuries. The juvenile showed signs of drug impairment and faces charges of DUI resulting in death and reckless driving resulting in death. No other details were provided.
The crash remains under investigation.
