Tragedy struck on Saturday night when a fatal accident occurred on FM 2867. Carthage residents Travis Phillips, 25, and Clark Neuman, 25, were involved in the motor vehicle accident.
Phillips, the driver of the Ford F-150, lost control of the vehicle around 9:48 p.m., roughly five miles southeast of Henderson. Initial reports suggest he failed to navigate a left-hand curve, resulting in the truck leaving the roadway to the south. In an attempt to correct course, the vehicle veered off to the north, ultimately colliding with a utility pole and a tree.
This devastating fatal crash claimed the life of Phillips. Neuman, the passenger, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to a Henderson hospital. The investigation by the DPS is currently underway.
