Authorities confirmed that 25-year-old Charlette Burghard died of injuries she suffered following a multi-vehicle wreck on Feb. 10 along Highway 240 near Richland that also killed 56-year-old Benedict J Beigler.
The fatal three-vehicle pile-up took place along Highway 240 near the Horn Rapids Golf Course at about 6:10 a.m. According to the investigation reports, Charlette Burghard, of Richland, was driving a Ford Focus west on the highway when a Ford F150 pickup being driven by 50-year-old Victor L Groves, of Outlook, went over the center line near the Horn Rapids Golf Course.
A Mercedes E-Class behind Burghard’s Focus also was struck by the truck. Groves’ passenger, 56-year-old Benedict J Beigler, of Yakima, succumbed to their injuries that day. On the other hand, Burghard was rushed to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where she was provided medical aid for approximately a week. Officials confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night.
Beigler was buckled up at the time of the crash but Burghard was not wearing a seatbelt. Reports further added that Groves was transported to Kadlec with critical injuries. Mercedes’ driver, 57-year-old Leiah E Peale, of Kennewick, was rushed to Trios Southridge Hospital with serious injuries. No other details are made available.
An investigation continues.
