According to the Knoxville Police Department, a multi-vehicle accident was reported on Sunday afternoon.
The officials stated that three cars were involved in a collision on Interstate 40 East.
The officials reported that a Nissan truck was traveling at a high rate of speed on I-40 when it collided with a Ford Fusion which then hit another vehicle.
The bystanders stated that the driver of the Nissan fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody.
The officials confirmed that the driver and passenger of the Ford Fusion suffered injuries and were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Ford Fusion suffered life-threatening injuries whereas the passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan identified as 25-year-old Amilear Rony Jeronimo-Sales charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, driving without a license, and having no proof of insurance.
