On Monday, 24-year-old Alexandra Ornelas, a resident of Wapato, lost her life following a single-vehicle accident.
As per the initial information, the fatal rollover crash took place in the 8400 block of No Track Road between Wapato and Toppenish at around 11:05 PM. Deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Yakama Nation Police, Wapato Police and District 5 fire department all responded to the crash scene. The officials stated that they got a report of an unresponsive individual lying on the ground outside of the vehicle.
Once officials arrived, they found that the woman had no pulse so they started performing CPR and used an automatic defibrillator in efforts to save the woman. Shortly after, emergency personnel arrived at the scene and declared the woman dead. The woman was identified as 24-year-old Alexandra Ornelas from the Tieton area. She was the sole occupant of her vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup.
Officers mentioned that her next of kin has been notified. Reports showed that Ornelas had been going northbound when her vehicle went off the east side of the roadway for approximately 300 feet and came back up onto the roadway. The pickup then left the west side of the roadway and flipped several times.
Ornelas was ejected from her pickup after one of the rolls. Authorities said that there were signs that intoxicants were involved, along with excessive speed. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
An investigation continues.
