Tragedy struck on Highway 84 in Rusk as a 23-year-old, identified as Ruben Lundgren of Jacksonville, lost his life in a fatal crash on Tuesday night. According to a preliminary report from DPS, a 2006 Toyota Camry, driven by Lundgren, was eastbound on Highway 84
It crossed lanes and collided with a 2021 GMC Terrain, approximately 10 miles west of Rusk. Both drivers, tragically, were not wearing seatbelts. Lundgren was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 46-year-old female driver of the GMC was transported to the hospital for treatment. The investigation into the circumstances of the multi-vehicle accident is ongoing. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
