A fatal crash occurred in Cherokee County around 3 a.m. on Sunday, claiming the life of Miguel Mendez, 23, from Jacksonville. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mendez was driving a northbound pickup on SH 135, just northeast of Troup.
The preliminary investigation suggests the truck failed to stay in a single lane, crossed into the southbound lane, collided with a tree in the ditch, and subsequently caught fire. Tragically, Mendez was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into this devastating incident is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the motor vehicle accident.
