Tragedy struck on the lower level of U.S. Highway 90B near Scottsdale Drive on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old motorcyclist from Harvey, Louisiana. Terrytown native John Semien, 67, stands accused of causing the fatal crash by driving his truck through a stop sign.
According to Louisiana State Police, Semien was allegedly impaired at the time of the incident. Michael Barahona, riding a 2008 Ducati motorcycle, collided with Semien’s 2001 GMC after the latter ran the stop sign.
Despite wearing a helmet, Barahona was unable to avoid the collision. Semien attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended shortly after by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. He now faces charges including Vehicular Homicide and Hit-and-Run Driving. The investigation into this tragic crash is ongoing.
