On Wednesday, authorities identified 22-year-old Case Doveno, of Tacoma, as the man who lost his life following an auto-pedestrian collision on April 7 in Spanaway.
The fatal hit-and-run crash took place on State Route 7, just before Field Road East at approximately 12:54 a.m. According to the investigation reports, Doveno was crossing the southbound lanes of the highway when he got hit by two vehicles. One car struck the pedestrian and stopped at the scene.
Shortly after, a second vehicle hit him and continued driving. Officers asked the public to help identify the second driver. The driver later turned himself in, and he will not face criminal charges. The driver informed the officials that he thought he hit a piece of car debris on the road and was not aware that he struck a person until he saw news articles about the accident.
He was released after being questioned. Case Doveno died of multiple blunt force injuries after the collision. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death an accident. No further details were provided.
The incident remains under review.
