Authorities state that a motor vehicle incident took place in the early hours of a Sunday morning on Interstate 5 (I-5) in Lacey, Washington. The crash claimed the life of a 21-year-old Shelton woman identified as Shelby R. Burton.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Burton had been driving in the wrong direction, heading south in the northbound lanes of I-5, having entered the freeway incorrectly from Exit 109.
This turn of events led to a head-on collision between Burton’s vehicle and a semi-trailer. The impact was fatal, resulting in Burton’s death at the scene. The 38-year-old truck driver from Graham emerged from the crash uninjured.
Following the collision, the roadway remained impassable for more than seven hours as authorities conducted their investigation and worked to clear the debris from the scene.
